Ready to rent or purchase an instrument with Bronstein Music? Great! Due to COVID-19, we have expanded our online rental and Guaranteed Buy-Back programs for everyone to use!
No appointment necessary for either program, you can pick up your instrument any time we're open, after you receive a confirmation email that your contract or purchase form has been processed. Please wait until you get that email before heading to the shop. We usually have your instrument ready for pickup within an hour or so of us receiving your completed form during business hours. Contracts and forms completed after hours will be processed when we re-open on our next open day.
Steps to do an online request:
- Fill out the instrument request form below with name, phone number, email, which instrument you’d like to rent or purchase, and what school your student attends (if this is for a student)
- If you would like us to include the school/Bronstein Music recommended accessories with your order (i.e. box of reeds, extra strings, etc.) please indicate what you would like added.
- We will select your preferred brand/condition or the best available instrument for you, prepare a contract with the serial number, and the amount due.
- *Please note* This is not an automated process, a Bronstein Music associate must physically pull the instrument to prepare a form for you. If you submit a request while we are closed, you will receive your form when we are next open.
- Rentals - We charge for the first two months up front when we process a rental (along with any extra accessories), then starting with the third month from your rental date we do automatic billing on the card you provide on that contract.
- Guaranteed Buy-Backs - We charge the credit/debit card you submit on the form for the full purchase of the instrument, plus accessories. We guarantee that we will buy it back from you for the price you paid, minus the use fee until the Guaranteed Buy-Back date.
- Purchases - We charge the card you submit on the form for the full purchase of the instrument, plus accessories. Bronstein Music provides one year of free maintenance with the purchase of any band or orchestra instrument.
- Once the proper form is submitted back to us, we’ll process the payment and enter it in our system. We'll send you an email receipt letting you know when it's ready to be picked up.
- **Important!** For select, participating schools we will automatically deliver your instrument to your school. All other students & renters must pick up the instrument from our location in South San Francisco. Please contact us if you are unsure if you're at a participating school.

Rental Program
Most students who start playing the oboe begin their studies on a student-level instrument and then transition to a conservatory model after a year or two. Some instructors request their students begin on a conservatory model to get used to the extra key work early, so please check with your band program or teacher to see which model you should be renting.
Conservatory oboes may be rented on a Rent-To-Rent basis or on a Rent-To-Own basis.
Student level oboes rent for $45 per month and conservatory oboes rent for $75 per month, plus applicable county use tax.

Single French Horn
Beginning students usually start on a single French horn for their first year of playing, then move up to the double horn. A single horn is one that is in a single key, usually F (but sometimes in Bb!), double horns have a trigger that allows switching between two sets of tubing on the instrument so it can be played in either F or Bb.
Because students only play on a single French horn for a year or two, we only offer them as rent-to-rent instruments. You can return the instrument any time after the 3-month minimum and when your student is ready, we can switch you over to a rent-to-own contract on a double horn, or apply up to 6 months of your rental credit towards purchasing a brand new instrument.
Single French horns rent for $45.00 per month, plus applicable county use tax.

Baritone horns and euphoniums are very similar instruments that usually play the same music in a wind band. We rent euphoniums here as that is the instrument that most people would want to rent-to-own. Violin Sizing
It is very important for orchestral string instruments be properly sized for the person playing it. If your student has been sized by the teacher recently (i.e. this school year), excellent! Please refer to the section below. If not, please refer to the chart to determine which instrument your student needs.
Small Violins (1/8-3/4 Size)
All of our small-size violins are rent-to-rent contracts. You should not purchase a smaller violin because your student will outgrow it in both size and playing abilities. We can do a straight equipment exchange once your student is ready for the next size up with no changes to your billing amount or date. This can be done until your student reaches the 3/4 size violin.
Once your student is ready for the full-size (4/4) violin, we can either apply up to 6 months of your rental credit toward purchasing a brand new instrument, or we can get you started on the rental with the option to purchase contract.
We collect the first two months of rent up front (plus any accessories), then do automatic billing on a credit card of your choice when you begin a rent-to-rent violin.

Viola Sizing

All used instruments have gone through the repair shop for a tune-up and
have undergone a cleaning process (for string instruments, we wipe down
the finger boards/strings and all touch points). There may be some
cosmetic imperfections, but they do not affect the play or sound of the
instrument.
For both programs, all of our string instruments come with a case,
bow, and cake of rosin. We have shoulder rests available for a
separate purchase.

Cello Sizing
It is very important for orchestral string instruments be properly sized for the person playing it. If your student has been sized by the teacher recently (i.e. this school year), excellent! Please refer to the section below.
If your student has not been sized by a teacher and you are unsure which size to select, please give us a call and we can walk you through the sizing process at home.
Small Cellos (1/2 & 3/4)
All of our small-size cellos are rent-to-rent contracts. You should not purchase a smaller cello because your student will outgrow it in both size and playing abilities. We can do a straight equipment exchange once your student is ready for the next size up with no changes to your billing amount or date. This can be done until your student reaches the 3/4 cello.
Once your student is ready for a full-size (4/4) cello, we can either apply up to 6 months of your rental credit toward purchasing a brand new instrument, or we can get you started on the rental with the option to purchase contract.
We collect the first two months of rent up front (plus any accessories), then do automatic billing on a credit card of your choice when you begin a rent-to-rent cello.

Purchase a brand-new full-size cello up front and if your student decides not to continue with orchestra, we will buy back the instrument for the price you paid, minus a school year use fee. This option is less expensive than just doing a rental for the school year.

- If your student continues with the instrument, it still receives a full year of maintenance from the date purchased
